A high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching should equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

At Red Hill Field we are time travellers. We journey backwards and forwards through time, making links and developing our understanding of the events that have occurred and the impact they have had on our lives today. 

We learn to think like historians: 

we think about continuity and change: why some aspects of everyday life have stood the test of time whilst others have evolved 

we think about the cause of events and the effects they have created for the lives of those that follow 

we recognise that the perspective of people varies and how important it is to find the facts 

we develop our empathetic understanding to help us understand how people might have felt 

we investigate why some events are deemed to have more historical significance than others 

we compare sources of information to create a full picture of historical happenings
